Job Description

MalaceHR is seeking an experienced Pipe Insulator to support a large college campus maintenance and construction operation. This position is responsible for installing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining insulation systems on piping, ductwork, and mechanical equipment throughout campus facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience working in new construction, industrial, or large commercial environments and possess a strong understanding of insulation materials, installation methods, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and replace insulation on hot water, chilled water, steam, condensate, domestic water, and process piping systems.
• Measure, cut, fit, and secure insulation materials including fiberglass, mineral wool, foam, and other specialty products.
• Install and maintain protective coverings, jacketing, vapor barriers, and weatherproofing materials.
• Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction drawings.
• Support new construction, renovation, and preventive maintenance projects across campus facilities.
• Inspect existing insulation systems and recommend repairs or replacements as needed.
• Work closely with maintenance personnel, contractors, and project teams to complete assignments safely and efficiently.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable building codes, safety regulations, and campus standards.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized manner.
• Document completed work and communicate project status to supervisors.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3+ years of pipe insulation experience in industrial, commercial, institutional, or new construction environments.
• Experience insulating mechanical piping systems, valves, fittings, ductwork, and related equipment.
• Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and technical drawings.
• Knowledge of insulation materials, vapor barriers, and protective coverings.
• Strong understanding of workplace safety practices and PPE requirements.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in higher education, healthcare, manufacturing, or large commercial facilities.
• Experience with steam and chilled water distribution systems.
• Familiarity with central utility plant environments.
• Trade school education or apprenticeship training in insulation or a related construction trade.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to climb ladders, work from lifts, and access confined mechanical spaces.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform physical work throughout the shift.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
