Job Description

Direct and organize G&R's safety program. Work to develop, implement and manage safety programs, policies and procedures. Keep up to date with Federal, State and Local Environmental Health & Safety regulations in the construction industry.

 

Must be able to perform the following tasks:

 

· Maintenance of safety, accident, and injury records

· Write and distribute monthly safety bulletins

· Conduct weekly inspections of projects to identify potential safety hazards and ensure that company standards of safety are observed, and provide inspection report to Risk, Vice President & President

· Lead weekly tool box meetings for all projects (via rotation), and develop a scheduled topic roll out for all supervisors to teach. Track and maintain all toolbox meeting records 

· Assist Risk Manager with post injury process for injured worker.

· Schedule, Conduct, Manage, and Track in-house training such as OSHA 10, Chopsaw, Material Handling & Hazard Communication, and Small Tool training. Also, coordinate all outsourced safety and project related training such as Confined Space, CPR, Excavation Competent Person, Fall Protection, Rigging, MOT, etc.

· Attend safety training classes/conferences to stay current on safety industry

· Advise G&R management of any serious safety issues

· Provide safety performance feedback to all field management staff

· Ensure all safety manuals and brochures are updated on an annual basis and produced at annual Open Enrollment meeting

· Ensure all projects are supplied with Safety Equipment, PPE, and First Aid Kits. Track distribution of supplies. 

· Provide disciplinary action and documentation for safety violations

· Assist Project Management in settling utility hit claims

· Manage, record, update and post all OSHA logs.

· Manage any OSHA inspections and or violations

· Provide Safety documentation to Estimating for Prequal preparation.

· Assist Project Management with Emergency Action Plan/Hurricane Plan preparation and distribution for all projects, shop, and office

· Attend annual Safety/Risk seminar hosted by our insurance carrier

· Ensure all new Field employees are oriented on all Safety Policies & Procedures

· Ensure all project specific SDS books are updated under PM direction

· Attend/Assist/Respond to Independent Apex Safety Audit every 3 years

· Attend biweekly scheduling meetings and provide safety specific recap for previous 2 weeks

· Review job specific Job Hazard Analysis with PM’s & Supers as needed.

· Conduct Pre-Construction Safety Meeting with Project Team for all new projects and subs

· Ability to identify known potential safety related exposures and lead implementation of corrective actions

· Ability to consistently apply safety and environmental principles and techniques

· Exceptional organizational skills with high attention to detail

· Analytical thinking, good judgment, and complex problem solving skills

· Travel required (both short and long distances), access to reliable transportation required

· Physical Ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas under construction. Frequent sitting, climbing balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, use of hands to feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands, talk, and hear.

· Lifting and or moving from 15 – 50 lbs

· Work is performed on construction work sites, as well as office environment. There will be exposure to moving mechanical parts, high or low precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise if the outdoor work environment is usually moderate to loud.

· Educational and experience requirements include Bachelor’s Degree from accredited degree program in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field of study, and minimum of 4 years of related construction safety experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

· Completed OSHA 30-hour training and maintain current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications

· Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) certification required or within 2 years of appointment

 

Employees operating a vehicle for Work Site Employer’s purposes will be required to maintain a valid, eligible driver’s license, and a driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier at all times.
