Surgical Assistant

Location: Cincinnati, OH

Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: 4x10s or 5x8s | 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Job Summary

"Navitas Healthcare, LLC" is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Assistant to support surgeons during operative procedures while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The Surgical Assistant will provide direct intraoperative assistance, maintain visualization of the operative field, assist with tissue handling and wound closure, and support surgical teams during complex procedures. The ideal candidate will possess strong anatomical knowledge, excellent technical skills, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during surgical procedures by positioning patients and maintaining exposure of the operative site.
• Provide operative field visualization through retractors, suctioning, sponging, tissue manipulation, and irrigation.
• Assist with hemostasis, wound closure, suturing, skin stapling, dressing application, and drainage placement.
• Support harvesting of veins, radial arteries, tendons, bone, and skin under surgeon supervision.
• Maintain sterile technique and comply with infection control and operating room safety standards.
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and surgical teams to support positive patient outcomes.
• Stay current with surgical technologies, specialty procedures, and best practices.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Surgical Assisting or completion of an accredited Surgical Assisting program required.
• Minimum 4 years of general surgical experience preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of specialty surgical experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and surgical procedures.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and clinical judgment skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and work effectively in high-pressure surgical settings.
